Sustera Foundation was established in 2017 with a vision premised on the need for addressing the climate urgency in the state of Kerala. The name SUSTERA is derived from the Latin word ‘TERRA’ (earth). The words ‘Susthiram’ in Malayalam and ‘Susthir’ in Hindi/Sanskrit also refer to sustainability.
ABOUT US.
We collaborate with governments, civil society organizations, and the private sector to envision solutions for climate challenges that have the potential to be scaled up and replicated. Our core values remain rooted in engaging maximum voices and enabling people from various backgrounds to take up climate advocacy. Sustera’s interventions at the moment are within Kerala and the adjoining western ghat's biodiversity hotspots.
Our cornerstone projects, the Climate Leadership Program and GenRe project, empower individuals and communities nationwide. Beyond these, we focus on seven key areas: Clean Mobility, Ecosystem Restoration, Environment Education, Climate Adaptation and Resilience, Circular Economy, Energy, and Climate Communication. Each stream contributes significantly to our mission of fostering sustainable practices and building a robust network of climate leaders.
